Last weekend we drove to Pittsburgh. Steve's friend Kim was getting married and we knew we had to make the trek. The eight hour drive was a little longer than we expected, but well worth it.
We stayed with our friend Melissa, who Steve knew from Hope. Saturday morning before the wedding we wandered around University of Pittsburgh campus.
Pittsburgh is FILLED with old gothic buildings; it was beautiful. Steve, who had been to Pittsburgh before, wanted to visit the Cathedral of Learning, Pitt's huge academic building that is gorgeous. This huge beautiful building is dedicated to human knowledge and how that is the ultimate quest. It's sad that they miss the mark.
We took the elevator up to the 36th floor to get 360 views of the city. It was amazing! After discovering the stairs we decided it would be a good idea to walk all the way back down. Melissa and I figured that 36 floors, about 20 steps per floor, equal 720 steps! Yeah... my knees were not happy by the end.
Next on our tour of Pittsburgh was Primanti Brothers. This is a staple in Pittsburgh culture and we were told we could not leave Pittsburgh without experiencing. They put EVERYTHING on the sandwich.
I did not finish mine :)
The wedding was in Riverview Park north of the city, it was a beautiful day for an outdoor wedding. It was a very green wedding; the plates, bowls, and utensils were all compostable and the dinner was vegetarian and vegan. From the above picture you can see that Steve and I are not vegetarians but we still enjoyed the food and festivities. Here is a picture of us with the new Mrs. Bracken!
On Sunday Steve and I drove back to Norfolk. We stopped in Manassas to pick up my car and see my mom. We got back into Norfolk just in time to see the sunset; it welcomed us home.
