A weekend in review

We had a full weekend! Friday started out with Steve getting out of work early for an "Oo-Rah" day = mandatory fun and free food provided by the Marine Corps Exchange. Steve introduced me to "bags" an outdoor game that is a cross between bean bag toss and horseshoes. After the picnic, which was in Virginia Beach, we headed to Chesapeake to watch a high school football game. We read about this high school quarterback who was a nationally ranked prospect and the team was undefeated last year. It was their opening game against a nationally ranked team from Florida and the game was going to be televised on ESPN. We thought it would be a fun experience since I've never attended a high school game and Steve played growing up. It POURED rain but we stuck it out under a beach towel and enjoyed a good game of football. It was a memory :)

Saturday morning we woke up and drove over to the church Steve and I have started attending (Tabernacle Church of Norfolk). The church has a large ministry to International Students who attend ODU (Old Dominion University) and Saturday was the orientation and welcome lunch. Students were taken around Norfolk, then on a tour of the USS Truman, ending with a lunch at the church. Steve and I were table hosts during the lunch. We just talked and got to know the students placed at our tables, most who are not Christians and this is their first time in the US. We had students from Lebanon, Turkey, China and South Korea! It is a great opportunity just to love on the international students and give them an introduction to American culture. We hope to keep in contact with the students over the semester and help them in the adjustment.

Sunday was a day of rest and more football! We got to watch the BEARS vs Broncos preseason game, Steve was very excited that his beloved BEARS had an excellent preseason showing and won. Football season is upon us :)

Back pedaling a little bit. Here is a picture from my first minor league baseball game (its been the week of sports).  On Thursday Steve and I had a date night by attending a Norfolk Tides baseball game. It was a fun time with hotdogs and funnel cake, classic stadium food, and Steve making sure my baseball knowledge was up to date :)
