September 22nd brought the official start to fall. Although the weather here in Norfolk is still hot, all the grocery stores and local nurseries are busting at the seams with Mums.
I love mums, they are just a happy flower. When I think of fall, I think of the leaves turning, pumpkins, and mums :) I drive by a local nursery on the way to base, and for a week now every time I do, I think, "I really want to get mums for our front porch." Well, this Tuesday I did a quick run to a grocery store and came out with a mum. I put it in a really cool green pot from Japan and happily placed it on my front porch, what a disappointment! The lone mum looked pitiful by itself. Steve kindly suggested that it wouldn't break the bank if I got more to try and fix the situation :) Yesterday, success was achieved with a commissary run where I bought a big beautiful pumpkin and with a trip the nursery down the road where another mum was purchased. I then drove home and spent about 15 minutes getting dirt under my nails and "playing" with my plants (my mother would be proud!).
A picture of moving day but it gives you an idea of our front porch.
The final result, just a few mums and a pumpkin but it makes me smile :)
