wehadababyitsagirl!

Noelle Kathryn was born October 16th 2013 at 11:53am.  She weighed 7lbs 10oz, measured 19.25 inches long.

About to leave for the hospital.

Strong little girl for 37 weeks 3 days!

Steve and I arrived at the hospital at 730 am for my scheduled c-section. They showed us to a room and got my IV hooked up. A rotation of people came through, my nurse, two anesthesiologist, Noelle's nurse, the assisting doctor and finally my doctor. There ended up being a delay so we didn't go to the OR until 11am. It was a long wait, beside being extremely thirsty, I was pretty emotional. One hand I was ready to just get it over with and meet our girl but also very anxious about going through a c-section again. My first c-section was very traumatic so all the preparation just brought back a flood of emotions from Josiah's birth. I'm very grateful to say her birth was such a different experience than Josiah. God was so good.

Once I was set up in the OR Steve was able to join me. Noelle was born screaming! It was a wonderful sound. The staff actually brought her over and showed her to me before they wiped her off. Once they got her wiped off and bundled up Steve brought her over to me. I got to kiss her little cheeks and Steve brought her down to my hand and she grabbed my finger. Even though I delivered at the same hospital they changed their policy to allow babies to be with the mother in recovery. So once I was all put back together I got to join Steve and Noelle. It was wonderful to see them so quickly, I had to wait 6 hours with Josiah. My nurses were great and once I was set up they brought Noelle over and she was able to start nursing. Noelle camped out on me until I was cleared from the recovery. It was a huge answer to prayer that I got her so soon after surgery.

Once I had Noelle nursing, Steve told me that her initial blood sugar reading was 44 (below the lower limit of 45). They checked again and it was 38. I was still the OR and so hadn't been able to feed her yet. The nurses started talking about her needing formula because of the low blood sugar. Steve started skin-to-skin with her because I had told him (prior to) it could help raise her levels. After about 10 minutes of skin-to-skin with Steve her next reading was 46. I arrived a few minutes later and when the checked her levels 30 minutes after that was 66! It's incredible how God designed things to work.

My mom and Josiah came to the hospital later that afternoon once we were moved to our mother/baby room. Josiah was so cute and keep looking at Noelle saying "what's that" and would whispering close to her. Another huge answer to prayer was that Josiah did great with my mom while we were in the hospital. Having my mom here has been a wonderful blessing.
